Chat History offered but not available.

Under the ☰ button, I see the enticing option Chat History on Widget and Standalone views.

I can never get it to save/show history in widget mode by chatting, triggering a new chat, and opening the history. Sometimes this process works in widget mode, but mostly it doesn’t.
